Mobel Link Modern Furniture

“There is an excitement here that I haven’t seen in quite some time, so I’m really optimistic. I see things going on that I never thought I’d see.”

Detroit is where Alan Kaniarz, has always called home. He has seen Detroit “at its heyday and at its worst.” It is also the place where he is able to conduct his business and has been doing so since 1983. The Russell Industrial Center is where he has worked out of since 1988 and has, in the recent two years, developed and started a modern furniture line with great success.

Both the city and workspace allows Kaniarz the opportunity to have enough room to run his business. There is also an artist community in the Russell Industrial Center that is unparalleled. He describes it as a place where everyone leaves their door open not knowing who will walk in from one day to the next.

He’s had the president of CCS stop in and minor celebrities from around the country interested in seeing his work. Last spring he even said six architecture students from Paris heard about the Russell Industrial Center and his work and wanted to come check it out. It’s pretty aweome to hear Detroit receiving local, national and even international attention.

Kaniarz views Detroit as a place of opportunity where you can find nowhere else, “There is a little bit of wild west sort of attitude of what can be done here. I think the possibilities are rather endless.”
