“We have our loyal customers and people are always coming downtown still, so that still helps us out a lot.”
Sy Pradithauanij sat down with Imagine Detroit to share the story of Sala Thai, which has been in business since 1994 and stationed in the historic Eastern Market district since 2001. The original location was in Ferndale, but after some time there, Sy’s father decided to come downtown because there was a gap in the market for their style cuisine.
The authentic Thai cuisine and sushi bar restaurant has experienced the ups and downs with the economy since its start in the city. Luckily, they have maintained a steady customer loyal base regardless of the financial status of the city.
They are grateful to be a part of Detroit and share the excitement it’s facing. To potential business owners in the area, Sy’s advice is to realize that all good things take hard work. “It’s not going to get great right away, stick with it, try to tough it out and it will pay off in the end,” he says.
